Convert to Googlism?

I was just thinking about that time when I first encountered the Internet. It was at my friend’s house, we were using a dial-up modem which omits this nasty sounds every time it tries to connect to the net and it will disconnect every 10 minutes. It was at the time of tyranny and it was waaay before broadband. It was in the year 2000, the new millennium, how graceful.

My friend had Netscape browser and all we did was searching for Marilyn Manson and Earth Wind and Fire pictures and videos haha through this thing called ‘search engines’. We would go to everything from Alta Vista, AOL, PageCrawler (i think?), and lastly Yahoo. That time, I realized that there was this thing on the side (or above) Yahoo’s search engine text box that said “powered by Google”. What an interesting name, I had thought.

Today, I am hooked to broadband internet connections almost everywhere. But most importantly, that thing that I had seen only on the side of a text box, where it was unlikely that people would pay attention to, is probably the biggest name in our generation. Ever since my first encounter with Internet in 2000, I had forgotten the last time I used Yahoo as my search engine. Google.com has been my homepage for quite some time now.

The thing is, it is funny because I did not think Google will be this monstrous, not until yesterday when suddenly I was thinking of doing my schedule on Google Calendars. I have been having my emails on Google (Gmail), my daily dose of information (Google Reader which summarizes news from websites incorporating RSS technology) and I have just set the Google Latitude on my BlackBerry, which submits my GPS location to the internet, also one of my source of entertainment, YouTube (ok you can start laughing now), has also been bought by this giant. I realised at this point Google knows and owns probably more than 50% of me! I can also say up to 50% of my knowledge has come from this thing. THAT IS HORRIFYING. Not to mention that the word itself has become a verb that is used in day-to-day English language.

I realized that I am hooked to Google, it is so sweet, it is fast, it is simple, concise, robust, technologically advanced, and it is mostly free! I don’t think I am alone in this. Check out googlism and the church of google, also its wikipedia has some crazy stuff too like the ten commandments. While you’re at it check out Google’s corporate philosophy and tell me you don’t want to work at Google.

Then come my imagination about it being evil, or…what if one day it goes down, with all my work and my stuff in there. That would be a really nice day wouldn’t it? Anyway, theoretically it won’t, and for now, I will make the best of it, I think I will setup my Google Calendar and sync it to my BlackBerry just because it is so awesome and I’m a total nerd.

I might have to get some rest before tomorrow’s exam. Have not been sleeping enough the last two days.
I think it’s true that sleep deprivation makes you lose sense in some way, and having a stress cocktail does not help either. Though for every decline there will be recovery and I am looking forward to it.

Most often,I get an idea of what to write on the road. Mind you, I do lots of travelling,alone,so my mind is often wandering somewhere else as I stroll down the road from home to campus,to part-time job(s), to the shops, etc. But not until recently I’ve got this convenience in my hand, a.k.a. The Blackberry.
I’ve been having this facebook application so I was wondering if there is one for wordpress. So I found this simplified site designed for mobile browsing. Long story short,for you loyal reader, look forward for more bullshit coming at you in real-time! How good is it? Ha!

Yeah so if everyone is up to date with their ‘music’ news, one of my favorite bands when I was in high school has come back from their break up. If you had not already known what I’m talking about, it’s Blink 182, and they did a couple of (shitty) rendition of not their two best songs on Jay Leno. They still can’t harmonize live, they look old, and please Tom, don’t do AVA shit on Blink songs.

Haha, despite the flammation it’s still awesome to see them back together and I regard their last album as one of their best. I’m looking forward into their new materials. Well, this might just be a good year.
